You and I are Earth

You and I Are Earth takes its name from an inscription on a 1661 ceramic found in a London sewer. Perhaps intended as a memento mori, the phrase evokes the cyclical nature of life and death—a truth often overshadowed by the pace of modern life, which perpetuates an illusion of separation from the natural world.

Like leaves on a tree, we exist as fleeting moments within Gaia's rhythms, transforming energy from one form to another. This recognition of interconnectedness invites solace and humility, reminding us that we belong to a vast, ever-fluctuating interwoven system.

The work reflects on humanity’s role within the Earth’s ecosystem, where the crises of climate change, war, and pollution stem from a profound disconnection—a belief that we exist apart from the world we inhabit. By challenging this identity crisis, You and I Are Earth reorients us to a perspective of unity. It rejects notions of ownership or dominion, inviting us instead to see ourselves as transient participants in a continuous cycle of transformation.
